Eco-Logistics: 5 Tips
According to The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), plastic packaging in the UK accounts for nearly 70% of our plastic waste although research continues to prove that consumers are more likely to spend their money with sustainable brands.
For example, in a 2020 McKinsey US consumer sentiment survey, more than 60% of participants said they would pay more for a product with sustainable packaging and a recent study by NielsenIQ found that 78% of US consumers say that a sustainable lifestyle is important to them.
Moreover, it’s not as expensive as it used to be. With an increasing quantity of consumers and businesses using sustainable products and packaging, prices of recycled and biodegradable goods are decreasing rapidly.
Here is what Foxmere does to improve the sustainability of its logistics model:
- 100% of our boxes, tape and stickers are made using recycled materials
- All of our packing beans and bubble wrap are fully biodegradable
- We reuse pallets, boxes and packing where possible*
- We intentionally use plain boxes and tape so that our customers can simply reuse our boxes
- We consolidate shipments wherever possible, both inbound and outbound, to save on transport costs
* We don’t mix materials. If packaging contains two different types of polymers, for example, that can render it unrecyclable. Therefore, if we have to use non-recyclable packaging, we prefer not to mix it with recyclable packaging materials.
To conclude, not only does switching to sustainable packaging help the environment, but it’s also a great way to attract and retain customers, and it’s not expensive.
