WEG motor dubbed "the most efficient industrial motor ever created"
Brazilian motor manufacturer, WEG has announced a new IE6 electric motor, which it claims will "shake up the industry" as "the most efficient industrial motor ever created".
The new motor, the W23 Sync+ Ultra, was designed to exceed European Ecodesign regulations and is 20% more efficient than the W23 Sync+ family of IE5 motors which it was based on.
To achieve such efficiency, WEG invented a hybrid motor technology that combines the best technical characteristics of permanent magnet (PM) and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motors. The hybrid PM/SynRM system cuts electrical losses with an innovative use of magnets, and when load and speed are reduced by 25%, the motor’s efficiency drops by less than 2%.
It is also compatible with existing installations and is suitable for applications such as compressors, pumps, fans and conveyors.
The W23 Sync+ Ultra will be available worldwide in IEC frame sizes 80 - 450 (and Nema frames 140 - 7000), spanning outputs from 0.75 - 1,250kW, and for 220/380V, 230/400V, 240/415V and 400/690V power supplies. It can also operate over a wide speed range at constant torque, without requiring forced ventilation, and will be available in a variety of speeds from 750 to 6,000 rpm.
